What is a Winnebago Revel Camper Van?
The Winnebago Revel is a high-roof Class B camper van built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, available in all-wheel-drive (newer models) or 4×4 (older models) configurations. First introduced in 2018, it quickly gained a strong following among van lifers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Purpose-built for off-road and off-grid travel, the Revel features a power lift bed with a rear gear garage, a compact kitchen, a wet bath, solar panels, and lithium batteries for extended boondocking. Combined with all-terrain tires, high ground clearance, and advanced Mercedes safety systems, it offers a self-contained, go-anywhere camper van that balances comfort with adventure capability.
Who Owns Winnebago Revel?
The Winnebago Revel is manufactured by Winnebago Industries, a leading American RV maker founded in 1958 and headquartered in Forest City, Iowa. Winnebago owns other top-rated RV manufacturers like Grand Design and Newmar. Check out our detailed review of Winnebago here.
Winnebago also builds other popular vans:
- Winnebago Solis – Built on the Ram ProMaster chassis, the Solis is a simple and compact camper van starting at 17 feet in length. It’s a budget-friendly option (from 95K) that can sleep three to four people, making it a practical choice for families.
- Winnebago Travato – Versatile and well-rounded, the Travato is Winnebago’s best-selling Class B built on the Ram ProMaster chassis. It’s equally at home boondocking off-grid or parked at a developed campground. At 21 feet, it offers more space and flexible layouts for two travelers. It’s available from $125,000.
How is Winnebago Revel Rated By Owners? RV Insider Rating

Winnebago Revel has a rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars from 8 owner reviews on RV Insider. In contrast, all campervan brands have an average score of 4.1 stars. This lower Revel score suggests the van hasn’t lived up to expectations compared to its peers. (But I do wonder with so many of these rigs out in the wild, why only 8 reviews. Like is there some type of statistical bias in the 3.7 due to its low sample size? Or could it be these were COVID builds? That is, a period of time when the extremely high demand for RVs led to quality issue across the board for manufacturers.)
Anyway, RV Insider is a platform where actual owners share their experiences and rate their RVs across key categories like reliability, comfort, functionality, warranty support, and overall ease of use. It’s a valuable resource for assessing the overall quality of any RV brand. Here are Winnebago Revel ratings across major categories:
⭐ Overall Quality – 3.1 out of 5
⭐ Livability and Comfort – 3.8/5
⭐ Floor Plan Functionality – 4.4/5
⭐ Ease of Driving – 4.5/5
⭐ Factory Warranty – 2.6/5

Is Winnebago Revel a Good Off-road Camper Van? Our Expert Take
Yes—the Winnebago Revel is a solidly built camper van with a simple interior and dependable construction. It’s superbly equipped for extended boondocking trips—thanks to the powerful battery system, solar, and dual alternator. When it comes to off-road capabilities, the Revel handles light off-road trails well, but its rugged looks can be misleading. On a 1–10 trail difficulty scale, the Winnebago Revel is best suited for trails rated 3 or below.
Its 20-ft length makes it difficult to maneuver on tight trails. Further, it has limited suspension travel and leaves vulnerable components like the exhaust pipe exposed underneath. Its tall profile also causes noticeable side-to-side sway, increasing the risk of a rollover on uneven ground. If you’re planning extreme four-season camping, the Revel lacks sufficient insulation. It is best suited for three to 3 ½ seasons. However, its dual heating system performs exceptionally well if you add aftermarket insulation.
For a van priced at $200,000, the Winnebago Revel’s interior materials and quality control are underwhelming. Winnebago cuts corners by using plastic instead of real wood, and we’ve noticed poor fit and finish, along with rattling and excessive shaking while driving. Still, the interior’s simplicity has one advantage: fewer components to fail over time.
Our Score of Winnebago Revel Quality
⭐ Our Go RV Rentals Overall Score of Winnebago Revel Quality is 7.4 out of 10
We give the Winnebago Revel a 7.4 out of 10 for overall quality. It falls short of an 8+ rating due to lower-grade interior materials, inconsistent fit and finish, inadequate insulation, and concerns over warranty reliability. That said, its solid structural build—both inside and out—keeps it in the 7+ range. Shoot us a note and let us know what you think.

What’s the Current Winnebago Revel Price?

The MSRP price of a new Winnebago Revel is $254,076 for the 44E floor plan, $210,570 for the 44N, and $201,205 for the 44C. After negotiation, the actual purchase price usually falls between $130,000 and $170,000. A used Winnebago Revel for sale starts around $80,000 for 2018 models and goes up to $145,000 for 2023 models.
What Chassis Does Winnebago Revel Use?
The 2025 Winnebago Revel rides on the Mercedes-Benz 2500 all-wheel-drive Sprinter chassis. Winnebago receives it from Mercedes as a complete high-roof van. Power comes from a 2.0-liter high-output turbo-diesel 4-cylinder engine with a 9-speed overdrive transmission delivering over 330 foot-pounds of torque. Winnebago then outfits the van shell with RV amenities. This chassis delivers a strong foundation, combining reliability, capability, and performance in both off-road and on-road situations.
What Off-road Features Does the Mercedes Revel AWD offer?

An all-wheel-drive chassis, 8 inches of ground clearance, a great departure angle, and rear mudguards. A Summit roof rack with LED light bars aids nighttime navigation, complemented by a high-performance LED light bar on the front. You can choose optional BFGoodrich T/A KO2 all-terrain tires, steel wheels, and RAPTOR® protective coating. Note that the Winnebago Revel 4×4 is only available on 2023 and earlier models.
What Systems Support Boondocking in the Winnebago Revel?
Winnebago Revel’s off-grid features are its strongest point. It has the capabilities to go boondocking for up to 7 days. Here’s what to expect:
- Smart Lithionics® GTO Lithium Battery (44E) – 1 standard and 1 optional, each offering 8,400Wh capacity—50% more capacity than previous models. The two deliver 16,800Wh delivering ample off-grid power with less charging and shore power reliance. Lithionics is the only UL-rated (safety & quality certification) battery in the RV market.
- 210W Solar Panels – To boost off-grid power and reduce daily drain, the Revel includes 210W solar panels, expandable with up to 1,600W portable panels.
- Dual Alternator System – The dual alternators enable fast charging, powering the AC or charging batteries at idle. Just two hours of driving fully recharges both 48V batteries.
- Inverter – Inverts 48V DC battery power to 120V AC for use with appliances and outlets, up to 3600W output
- Inverter Charger – Inverts 120V AC shore power to 48V DC to charge the lithium house battery, up to 3000W input
- DC-DC Converter – Converts 48V DC battery power to 12V DC power for RV appliances like water pumps, lighting, and accessories, up to 1000W output
- MPPT Solar Charger – Boosts DC solar power to charge the lithium house battery.
- Lithionics® Battery Management System – Streamlines communication between all of the different charging components for optimal charging. It also includes safety features to regulate and shut off the batteries if any issues arise.
- 35 Gallon Freshwater Tank – The Revel’s new industry-leading 35-gallon freshwater tank is custom-molded for space efficiency and includes a heat loop sensor to prevent freezing.
- 5-Gallon Cassette Toilet – Offers flexible waste disposal at a vault, household toilet, or dump station. One person can use it up to seven days.
- 21-gallon gray tank
Can the Winnebago Revel handle 4-Season Camping?

No. The Winnebago Revel is best suited for 3 to 3½ season camping. It handles late spring, summer, and early autumn comfortably. Also, it can extend into late fall or very early winter near freezing. However, key areas of the van lack sufficient insulation (rear doors and around holding tanks), making cold-weather camping difficult without winterizing the plumbing system.
However, it still has some solid 3-season features:
- Multi-layer gap-free 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation coverage engineered and optimized for the Revel
- Honeycomb composite flooring for an added thermal break
- Heated fresh and gray water tanks that are located inside the cabin for extra warmth
- Diesel-fired hydronic heating system with dual-zone heating (lounge and bedroom) and ambient sensors
- Optional AC
- Tinted dual-pane Euro acrylic windows
How Many People Can the Winnebago Revel Sleep? + Sleeping Arrangement
The Winnebago Revel sleeps only two on its rear, powered lift bed, which measures 49″ x 79″—slightly smaller than a queen. The rising bed goes all the way to the roof when not in use, creating gear space below. With additional setups, like the optional 30×65-inch front cab air mattress or a modified passenger seat bed, it can accommodate up to four.
However, taller campers often find the rear, side-to-side bed short, forcing them to sleep at an angle. Regarding comfort, the 2025 models feature an upgraded WinnSleep® mattress. It’s a 5-inch thick design, replacing the previous 3½-inch version that was less supportive. The bedroom is separated from the living area by a thick, privacy zip-up curtain.
What Features Does the Winnebago Revel Kitchen Include?

The Winnebago Revel galley includes a portable single-burner induction cooktop and a small stainless-steel sink. You can cook inside or move the cooktop to the exterior drop-down table. The 44E offers ample counter space (high-pressure laminate) but no pantry, while the 44C and 44N include a pantry but smaller counters. A removable extension adds extra prep space.
Below the counter, a 3.0 cu ft 12V single-door compressor refrigerator with freezer provides easy access for outdoor cooking. Kitchen storage includes a spacious overhead compartment and multiple pull-out drawers below the sink. Main galley drawbacks: tiny kitchen, the induction cooktop is power-hungry, and its single burner isn’t convenient for making multiple meals. Also, the sink is too small for washing.
What Features Does the Winnebago Revel Bathroom Include?
The Revel features a compact wet bath measuring 31 x 26 inches. Highlights include a dual-control faucet with a flexible showerhead and a swivel 5-gallon cassette toilet. The upgraded split bath door is easier to open than previous models and includes a privacy panel extension.
The panel allows you to step out and dress in the rear bedroom with added privacy. Other details include a powered roof vent, removable shelf, clothes rod, robe hooks, shower curtain, tissue holder, two collapsible storage containers, and a mirror.
What’s Included in the Winnebago Revel Cab Area?

The Revel includes multiple cab conveniences. Heated cab seats feature adjustable lumbar support, headrests, and slide, swivel, and recline functions. A heated steering wheel pairs with power steering for comfort. The MBUX touchscreen multimedia system offers navigation, WiFi hotspot, voice control, and a rear camera.
Additional features include power windows, rain-sensing wipers, power mirrors with defrost, and a power door lock with remote control. Other details include multiple charging options (wireless, 12V, USB) and folding privacy shades. The only complaint is that the driver’s seat sits high, so shorter drivers may struggle to rest their heels.
How Much Storage Does the Winnebago Revel Offer?
The Winnebago Revel offers generous storage space. It includes three large overhead compartments—above the kitchen, above the dinette, and a deep 21×56-inch shelf over the cab. The largest area is the gear garage under the power lift bed—46×56 inches in the Sport and 37×56 in the Standard Revel. The garage is equipped with L-tracks or D-rings to secure cargo. The kitchen cabinets are sizable, and an exterior roof rack with side rails adds extra capacity.
Other solutions include 2 storage nets in the bedroom, bath shelves, a kitchen spice rack, and a cubby inside the rear battery compartment. The biggest storage complaint is the lack of designated spaces for clothes or pantry items. Owners often rely on bins or boxes, while some repurpose the wet bath as a wardrobe. Another drawback is that the 2025 44E model has a narrower gear garage.
What Type of Heater and AC Does the Winnebago Revel Use?

The Revel features a hydronic heating system with multi-zone control managed by an LED touchscreen panel. It lets you customize temps in the front lounge or bedroom (dual heating not available in Sport). For cooling, it includes a deluxe powered ventilator fan with a rain cover, while a 13,500 BTU AC is available as an option. Both climate control systems perform well overall. However, on 2023 and 2024 models, the AC runs for only about two hours unless connected to shore power—far from ideal when off-grid in hot conditions.
What Safety Features Come Standard in the Mercedes Revel?
Here are Winnebago Revel’s safety features:
- 360-degree camera system
- 3-point cab seat belts
- Distronic Plus Adaptive cruise control
- Active braking assist
- Active lane keeping assist
- Blind spot assist
- Attention assist with driver alert
- Traffic sign assist
- Digital rearview mirror

- High-performance auto headlamps
- Front fairing dual off-road light bars on roof rack (22,000 lumens) on the 44E
- LP, smoke, and carbon monoxide detectors
- Fire extinguisher
- Ground fault interuptor
What’s Winnebago Revel’s MPG and Fuel Capacity?
The Revel averages 14–16 MPG, dropping to 13 in city driving when fully loaded and reaching 18 on open highways. Optimal fuel economy occurs around 62 MPH, yielding 17+ MPG for long-distance travel. The Revel’s best cruising speed is 60–70 MPH, as some owners report vibration above that. Its top speed is 90 MPH. The fuel capacity of the Revel van is 24.5 gallons.
Is the Plumbing System in the Winnebago Revel Reliable?

Not entirely. The Revel uses plastic plumbing fittings and crimp rings, which are known for higher failure rates. Some owners even replace the entire system to avoid leaks. On the plus side, the Water Center Control Panel, located inside the right rear door, is convenient and features easy-to-use color-coded controls. Just be careful when connecting a hose to gravity fill the fresh tank to avoid water on the inside.
What is the Quality of Winnebago Revel’s Fit and Finish?
Winnebago Revel’s quality control is generally good but not flawless. Owners often report loose trim, uneven cabinet alignment, and rattling panels. Others mention poorly fitted seals, squeaky latches, and leaks. Overall, the build feels solid, but attention to detail can be inconsistent across different units.

What Does the Winnebago Revel Warranty Cover?

Buying a Revel includes warranty protection from both Winnebago and Mercedes-Benz. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s covered:
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Powertrain – 5 years/100,000 miles
- Mercedes-Benz Bumper to Bumper – 3 years/36,000 miles
- Winnebago Camper Van Features – 1 year/24,000 miles
- Lithionics Battery – 5 years or a minimum of 2,000 cycles at full depth-of-discharge
- Other camper van components also come with separate warranties.
Is Winnebago’s Warranty Reliable?
Yes, the Winnebago Revel’s warranty is generally reliable, with fewer complaints than many rival RV brands. The most common issues involve delays in response, claim approval, and repairs. Winnebago can also be slow in dispatching parts, though they do eventually deliver.
Many owners report that Winnebago rarely denies claims when contacted directly. Some dealers, however, mislead customers by saying claims were denied when they never submitted them. For this reason, it’s best to call Winnebago yourself and to purchase from a dealer known for fast, honest, and reliable warranty service—since most repairs must be done through the selling dealer.
In addition, Winnebago’s Factory Service Center in Forest City, Iowa, is the top choice for warranty repairs. The facility offers electric hookup sites for customers, and even non-warranty repairs are often cheaper than typical service shops.

Winnebago Revel Class B Reviews From Owners

Below are Winnebago Revel owner experiences extracted from various forums:
✅ Owner Review of Winnebago Revel Campervan – SO easy to drive, even when we tow our raft or even the utility trailer. Great storage in the “garage” section and the enclosed shower/bathroom space was a must for us – even if we’re just hanging wet gear in there to drain. We really like the ease of cooking in it, but really, really like it when we can just leave the side door open, pop the outdoor table down and cook/eat outdoors wherever we are!
✅ Winnebago Revel Warranty Review– I have a 2023 revel (built on the 2022 MB chassis with 4wd 6cyl) and it’s been great. The 12 month warranty was great because I kept having appliances break and Winnebago fixed everything for me under warranty. I been full timing in it for 13 months now and have traveled from Miami to Washington state, down the west coast and back.
✅ Winnebago Revel Review on Boondocking – Easy to drive, decent gas mileage, enough room for two for about five plus days off grid. Pulls a light trailer with four wheeler easily. Overall really great van, for the price there could have been some better finishes, but overall it is a great camper van and really fun to take to those hard to get places.
✅ Review of Winnebago Revel Resale value – A nice thing about a Revel is that there is resale market for them. It is much easier than trying to sell your custom van.
✅ Winnebago Revel Support – While the quality is average at best, if you are handy its a great platform and the largest community for support and tons of info online if you have issues or questions. The Facebook group has over 20k members and questions are usually answered in minutes.
❌ Winnebago’s Revel’s Built Quality Review – The Sprinter platform is great but Winnebago ‘s build quality is lacking. Granted this was a rental, the roof leaked where the fan is, one of the windows popped out of it’s housing, the upper bathroom door latch broke, the pop out cabinet locks are chrome plastic and started to wear. On top of that the motorized awning stopped working.
❌ Winnebago Revel Problems – After spending over $160,000 on a 2024 Revel (on a 2022 Sprinter chassis), I expected premium quality, reliability, and customer support. What I got instead has been multiple mechanical failures, poor communication, and a frustrating game of finger-pointing between Winnebago, the dealer, and Mercedes-Benz — with no one taking real accountability.
❌ Review of Winnebago Revel Interior – I had a Winnebago Revel for 3 years and 45k miles. The Revel rattled like crazy inside but I miss the bathroom and that sweet, sweet 5 gal euro cassette toilet. Poorly adjusted rear doors (even on a brand new van) can let dust in. Once adjusted properly they let in very little dust.
❌ 2025 Winnebago Revel Review (44E model) – One thing to keep in mind…and what has turned me off from swapping out my 2021 for a 2025 is the garage in the 25 is narrower and there is no kitchen pantry. Just something to be aware of. You can always upgrade battery capacity but for us the larger garage and kitchen pantry is a big deal.
❌ Winnebago Revel Winter Camping Review – Winter has shown me that the Revel is lacking insulation in some key areas, such as the rear doors.

The average cost to rent a Winnebago Revel is $200 to $500 a night, with most owners renting out at $270 a night. That’s the base price. Additional RV rental costs often include insurance, taxes, platform service fees, excess mileage charges, and optional owner add-ons for gear.
So….Is a Winnebago Revel Worth it?
Yes—the Winnebago Revel is a solid camper van for off-grid adventures. Recent updates have made it even more capable, with larger lithium battery banks, increased freshwater capacity, dual hydronic heating zones, powerful light bars, and an all-terrain tire package.
That said, don’t mistake it for a hardcore off-roader. Despite its rugged looks, the Revel is built for light dirt trails, not extreme terrain. And don’t let the $250K price tag scare you—new Revels start around $130K, and used models can be found from $80K.
